Every second Monday of the month,
starting September 14th 2009 |
||
|
The aim is simple – to help you enjoy wines more. To discover why different wines appeal to your own palates more than others. To strip away some of the myths that can overwhelm the ‘innocent’ and also hopefully to put into context the world of wine. For example are wines from Bordeaux and Burgundy worth the money? Why are wines from ‘the new world’ so drinkable and, and at times, so cheap? We want the gatherings to be informative but also fun. Each gathering will consist of some knowledge, some discussion and of course some tastings. We will also talk about matching wine with food and we will also host regular wine dinners at which we will bring the cuisine of particular regions together with the wines of those regions.
Each month we will discuss the characteristics and range of these
grape varietals and of course taste them. We will also have guest
speakers who will impart specialist knowledge. But the aim is to broaden
horizons and not baffle them. We won’t be doing technical aspects
of wine making. |
||
| The proposed structure of the programme will be as follows: | ||
How the rise of the British middle classes in the 18th and 19th Centuries shaped the wine industry... |
||

The
idea is to bring to you a comprehensive and accessible way to expand
your wine knowledge. We will gather once a month and dedicate each
monthly session to a major grape variety. We will alternate between
whites and reds.
Our
first event will focus on the broad issues and will consist of some
of the basic aspects of the wine world that should help to illuminate
future discussion. For example it will be useful to have a basic knowledge
of where the major wine varietals are grown and why they can be grown
in those locations
